BKK Adventures

Day 1 - Eating Scorpion Will Make You Puke?

Our guide cropped herself out cos she supposedly looked unglam

As we landed in Bangkok, the sun was up and our stomachs were growling.

"Food, food, food..." our stomachs called out as our local tour guide gave us brilliant suggestions on where to feast.

Our tour guide has a repertoire of eating good & cheap food, especially after she had spent 6 months of her life trying to be a local.
She's the one in the middle
For those you don't know, that's my friend Qiqi who was pretty much half thai & half malaysian. I only recently found out that she wasn't a Malaccan spy sent to Singapore to learn our way of life.

Braised pork rice
The first dish we tried was the 卤肉饭, or braised pork rice for my non-chinese speaking fans. All good braised pork rice had one thing in common - and that is the meat will melt in your mouth. The mixture of melt in your mouth goodness with soft sticky rice really made me feel that I had one foot in heaven.

Wanton Mee
Next up, we also ordered some wanton noodles at the restaurant. The wanton mee was only at a decent level, but the hungry us just gorged it down quickly and easily.

We headed to Platinum mall to do some shopping for a couple of hours. The guys & girls split up and I think I bought at least 5 singlets there.
Red Ruby
We took a short break at the food court upstairs and treated ourselves to this gorgeous red ruby. It may look like shit but it was really some good shit.
???
Meanwhile my local tour guide bought some eye mask that apparently is cooling and cures dark circles. Well, if that can work then maybe next week I can guess the 1st prize Toto numbers too.

Somebody hibernating
We checked into our hotel room and traveled a good 20 minutes out to some village area to taste this amazing seafood ramen platter. And it didn't disappoint. It was around 30SGD for this gigantic bowl of seafood which included - lobster, crab, prawn, mussels, scallops and many more. We shared it amongst 4 people and it was really filling!

What's the best thing to do after eating dinner? That's right, to have MORE FOOD!

Our group split up between people who wanted to walk to digest dinner and those who were too lazy to walk. Our destination was Neon Night Market and one thing I learnt that night was that taxi was always faster than walking.

Coconut Ice Cream!
Neon Night Market was packed with locals & tourists alike feasting on a plethora of food. They had a huge selection of food around the corner and since we reached first, we were chilling with some coconut ice cream!

After a while the rest of the group arrived and they were screaming excitedly to me.

"Han Ren, Han Ren GOT SCORPION LEH!"

So I got half-pulled and half-dragged to the store because none of them were brave enough to try it.

This happened and I was accused of being greedy cos I didn't share the scorpion with rest of them.

Well, these people went around posing with my scorpion even though they didn't even taste it.

The scorpion tasted like soft shelled crab with its pincers being really crunchy and it's body filled with little meat. But when you bite down on the whole thing it tasted pretty okay. 3/10 would not recommend you to try it unless you're just doing it for the gram.

Day 2 - The Day We Befriended REAL Siambus
