SUMMER PART III FTB RUN 1

ONE CHOICE WILL DEFINE YOU

Its back to school after a few holiday trips overseas namely Korea, Cambodia and Malacca. And time for FTB RUN 1. I was really looking forward to it as it was my first time being a facilitator in SMU. I have some experience as an OGL in TJ but it was never an overnight camp and i heard it would be very tiring for the facilitators as we would be sleeping less than 3 hours a day for 3 nights straight. Despite that, I was raring to go and ready to make my summer fruitful and an unforgettable one.

RUN 1

Day 0 of run 1 was possibly the most shag I will ever have. Being geniuses, me and Jiayi decided to hold a pre-camp dinner when we have briefing at that point in time. We were able to sneak out at 5 plus to meet our freshies and have dinner at Eighteen chefs. It was pretty awkward at first but after a while, we managed to get the whole group to start talking with each other. Being their first camp, they were quite excited for the next day as they toured the school with us before we appeared late for the briefing and Yew Tong gave us a lashing.

Afterwards was the dry run of the skit during the first day. We had to rehearse a couple of times before we got our shit together and managed to have a good cheer. However, the faci performance was in shambles as most of us didn't turn up for the dance practice. So we had to practice it numerous times before we were able to call it a day. By then, it was already almost 12am and some of us went to the secret toilet to shower. We then went for supper and by the time we were asleep it was almost 4am.

Day 1 began as soon as day 0 ended as I could see many facilitators dragging their tired bodies around the school from the sports hall to the T Junction to collect the SAP forms. After the introduction, disaster struck as we did not receive the instructions to move the bags from outside the sports hall to the inside. On hindsight they clarified with me that they did in fact give us the instruction but it was given after Abnegation and Candor has left the hall. So basically they fucked up and we have to clean up their shit for them.

Despite the rough start to the day, we had fun at station games and continued breaking the ice through random games we could think of along the way. Most of the time the group was sporting and we were able to select 1 guy and 1 girl out of the group for freshie performance!

Soon we were leaving for Sarimbun and it was hard on us as we were separated into two buses. Jiayi took most of the girls while i brought along the guys and the remaining girls. We met up at Sarimbun and collected their valuables. By the time i reached the place to collect the tents the HA person told me we were as I quote him "Fucking late and (he) thought we were kidnapped". We then brought them to set up their tents. But nothing was going right this day as most of the tents had broken zippers or had holes. So i walked back and forth collecting new tents only to return them after i find out it was spoilt. It was on my 3rd time that I flared up and the staff went into the store room to get me a fresh tent. The freshies then set up their tents and it was time for dinner.

After dinner was mass dance which made most of the facis look like fools. Basically we didn't rehearse mass dance for a good week and we have forgotten most of the dance steps. So when they asked us to demonstrate to the crowd, we weren't able to do so. Some freshies thought that since facis cannot even dance properly why should they. This was an oversight from the organizing committee and they were cool enough to rectify this mistake in run 2.

The campfire was great as it really made the freshies loosen up and learn the cheer while having some fun. I was just glad i didn't lose the mosquito game again like I did during mock camp and had to dance in front of the whole camp. The friendship dance was impressive as they allowed our clan to bond even better and let the freshies make friends outside the group!

After day 1, we had a great talk with the freshies before we went for our performance training. I felt really delighted when I heard from them that they continued talking deep into the night despite the two facis leaving them alone.

MILO POND MAKES YOU WET

Day 2 couldn't come soon enough as I was excited from the start. Despite having just barely 3 hours of sleep I was ready for war between different factions. The games being played today was much more exciting compared to the mundane station games. However the first game of the day was pretty horrible. We lost the first 2 rounds of the game and the opposing faci kept on rubbing salt into the wounds by calling us loser. During the 3rd round we had a turn of events as our whole group suddenly had the fighting spirit and managed to draw overall.

From that game on, Abengation 8 was on fire. We destroyed every single team from Dauntless and won 6 games straight but we lost at the last game unfortunately. We didn't lose because we were the lousier team. We lost because I told them friendship came first. The opposing team was breaking many rules during a simple game of captain ball like slapping the ball and entering the "one arm length" zone. When it got very rough and physical, I pulled my team aside and told them to be the bigger man. I gave them a quote,"Skills win you medals, but attitude wins hearts." Cheesy as it may sound I believed my words hit them deep inside as they threw the match and evervbody went back happily.
Facis of Abnegation run 1
Soon it was finale night and everyone was excited to see the performance. Basically all of the facilitators were still having last minute training at the MPH by Chingyi and had doubts whether we would be able to pull off the performance. We were all nervous and by the time it reached our turn, we were getting pumped up and adrenaline kicked in. Halfway through our dance we realised that the stage was too small and our formation messed up. We tried our best to recover for the 2nd half of the performance but I think it was already too late. We still finished it in style though, by pulling off our most swag look ever.

AMAZING RACE WALK

The 3rd day was pretty much lepak as we were supposed to keep tents in the first time slot while the other two clans went to play amazing race. However, one of our freshies needed to use the toilet so we just sat at the tentage waiting for him to come back, We decided to move off after half an hour and we were pleasantly surprised that our tents were already taken down by our clan mates. We then proceeded to start amazing race.
Got time to selfie no time for amazing race
We have already lost most hope in winning best clan so we were quite chill as we slowly walked around Sarimbun camp and completed 6 stations before I pushed them to the MPH and started playing Ninja. Afterwards was a life lessons session as we made them write messages and notes to one another. We played a game whereby we made all of them close their eyes and raise hands when after we ask the questions. We asked them if they think they will remain friends after FTB and I was really glad most of them raised their hands. We then asked them if they think the facilitators did a good job and all of them raised their hands.

After that was mass dance but the facilitators were sent to clean toilet and the bunks concurrently. Instead of cleaning the bunks, we spent the hour taking a nap. Afterwards we went back to the main tentage for them to announce the results of best groups and best clans. As expected, we didn't win the best group. But when they announced the best clan, the shock on the faces of Abnegation facilitators were real.

We have won. At the end of day 2 they had announced Candor was way ahead and when we won, we were shocked speechless. We went up to the stage and rallied the clan through a cheer and proceeded to collect our prize.

And there is was the end of a wonderful run 1. I was already ready for run 2!

we came as groupmates and we leave as friends
