A Night in Balestier

WE didn't set out to go there

As usual, I was meeting Reynold at Bishan for the new Jackie Chan movie Railroad Tigers. But due to some unfortunate event of me missing my bus, I reached there late and the only seats left were the first row which Rey insisted that he didn't want to sit there. So we searched and searched for other movies, but the timing and seatings were deemed undesirable. As such, this crazy person told me to search up Shaw Balestier as he described it as "Ulu until forever empty" Kudos to him, the cinema was really rather empty. And we decided to rush down there from Bishan. The movie was at 6.50 and we left Bishan at 6.30 wishing for good traffic.
Shaw Plaza
It was really situated in the middle of nowhere and the name of the place made me realise why it was surviving till now. Shaw was made the anchor tenant of the mall and with that, they would be able to fetch other tenants to come and set up shop eventually. When I went into the mall it was relatively empty with few people in the main podium but rather quite a group of people in Macdonalds and the KFC there. The cinema of course was pure old school, even the ticketing system was a throwback to the 2000s era with the ticketing auntie manually keying in our seats for us. Furthermore, she glanced at our IC and didn't give two hoots that we were gonna catch a M18 show Christmas Office Party.
Jennifer Aniston plays a badass role in the trashy film

After that we took quite a stroll around the neighbourhood filled with Frangrance and Hotel81. The streets were pretty much lined with various Bak Ku Teh store and we paced up and down the roads till the expressway before we decided on which store to settle our dinner at.

It was a relatively good dinner and we added on 猪脚 to the usual 肉骨茶. It was 24 bucks for 2pax so I guess it's not bad. The soup was also refillable and it was really good.
An Upper deck all to myself
That was a rather short trip in Balestier as it was rather impromptu. We should probably explore another region in Singapore soon before shit hits the roof at school again.
